There are so many people in the world who want to put their opinion out there for others to see – which is why social media is so successful; people get to spout their thoughts and feelings and have thousands of people read and reply. The difference is that a blog isn’t limited to a sentence, or to a certain amount of characters. It’s a thought out, developed, and an edited piece of writing. Which, hopefully, contains evidence of research behind each thought.
Yet bloggers often forget about some vital tools at their disposal to grow their readership – particularly individuals new to blogging. These tools are things that have been used in businesses for decades and are tried and tested practices. And, at the end of the day, a blog is a business. If you’re earning money, or being given products, you are running a business and should be acting accordingly. The practices we’re talking about all come under the same title; marketing.

During the first week in January, I participated in an Instagram yoga challenge on self-care, and why yoga is sacred to our self-care.

My mat is my place where I can laugh, cry, examine my life, and contemplate some of life’s biggest puzzles (on a personal level, of course). Its the place that I go to for clarity, to find comfort (both physically and mentally), and find inner peace. But as yoga teachers, sometimes we lose that side of yoga.
As yoga teachers, we give to our students. We guide them to a place of kindness, love and security, and sometimes our own personal self-care gets lost in the weeds.
Self-care is no less important for us as teachers than it is to our students, though. In fact, it is key to being a successful yoga teacher, as well as to running a successful business.
So how do we make sure that it is a priority in our busy teaching lives?

With any business, entrepreneurs need to maximize the duality between the online and offline environment. Indeed, while more and more health-conscious adults are turning toward the ancient art of yoga for its multiple body and mind advantages, for many the journey that leads to a decision is long and complex. Many newcomers to yoga can be worried about fitting in, both mentally and physically. Can I practice yoga even if I’m not flexible? Is yoga right for someone who likes fast-paced activities?
When these questions are left unanswered, you could be missing on opportunities to attract new students. That’s precisely why, as a yoga instructor, you need to make the most of the digital sphere to educate your audience and remove their fears. Setting up a website to share your expertise and perception of yoga can go a long way in encouraging beginners to try the activity. Additionally, it makes your business not only easier to understand but also easier to find. But, beyond a blog and social media presence, online holds the key to new business expansion, if you can navigate your way in the troubled waters of the digital challenges. (more…)
