Supporting Your Clients In Lockdown

Many people are still experiencing lockdown and social distancing measures that are keeping them at home. This is a tough situation to be in, with people who rely on going to the gym or studio to exercise facing an extended period indoors and coping with other concerns such as health and work.

Yoga businesses have adapted by taking everything online, which is a great way to keep up with your clients during lockdown. And with exercise being crucial to many people’s day during lockdown, there could be even more ways you could help.

Here are some suggestions for supporting your clients in lockdown to help them find calm and balance.

Help them with routine

Building a routine is helping many people find a sense of normality right now. People who are used to attending your class at a fixed time each week will want to keep that up during this tough time. So how can you help? Start by creating a schedule for online classes and sessions that your clients can attend. This will help them retain some sense or normality, and it will help you develop a routine for yourself too.

Remember that many of your clients won’t have much of a setup in their home, so why not provide them with some guidance on setting up a home yoga studio too?

Provide motivation and inspiration

It can be difficult to find the motivation for exercise when you’re stuck at home. This is where you can help through providing encouragement and inspiration – showcasing why you’re good at what you do. This can happen through posting quotes and images, sharing your daily routine, and educating your clients on how they can stay healthy. Building an online community right now could be beneficial to your business, but it will also provide the support and motivation your clients need right now.

Add some fun to your sessions

With all the doom and gloom in the world right now, people deserve a bit of fun. So why not bring some of that to your sessions? You could bring in fun equipment into your sessions, like a rebounder (if you teach fitness classes) or yoga body rolling, and try something a little different with your classes. Many people see fitness as an escape, and if you can help them smile while doing it, you’ll be doing more than you know to brighten someone’s day.

Stay for a chat after a class

Getting to know your clients is one of the great things about having a yoga business. But when you’re not physically in a class, the time to chat at the end tends to disappear. Why not bring that back? It can be nice to find out what your clients have been up to and to share lockdown stories, bringing back something you didn’t realize was missing. Even if it’s just for 5 or 10 minutes, stay online at the end of your session to have a nice, sociable chat with your clients.

We don’t know when things will return to normal, which is why it’s important to find what’s normal for now. In supporting your clients in lockdown, you’ll be supporting yourself too – helping you keep both your business and your own health and wellbeing afloat.
