5 Tips for Creating a Successful Online Course

Online courses are all the rave these days, and for good reason! You create the course, you market the course, and then you make money, and if you’re course is good enough, you can have years of passive income. What’s not desirable about all of that?

What some people don’t realize is how much effort it takes to create a great online course. After creating 2 courses on my own with the use of an iPhone 6, a GoPro Hero 4 and iMovie, and a basic microphone and lapel mic, I have learned a thing or 2, and I want to share what I’ve learned with YOU!

059: Creating American Power Yoga + Simplified Genetics with Kurt Johnsen

This week on the podcast, I’m chatting with the founder of American Power Yoga and Simplified Genetics, Kurt Johnsen. Kurt is based out of Dallas, and he shares the story of creating American Power Yoga over 15 years ago.

Kurt came to yoga from kung fu, and he took what he learned from his background in martial arts to create American Power Yoga. He didn’t have a formal yoga teacher training and he hardly had any experience in the yoga industry, yet he was successfully able to create a studio that grew to be quite big.

On this episode, Kurt shares the process of creating, growing and selling American Power Yoga, what he learned through running American Power Yoga, and the biggest business lessons he’s learned through his career. We also chat about his new company Simplified Genetics, including where the idea came from, what it was like to start the business, and how it’s grown over the last 2 years.

058: The Danger of Comparison + How to Stop Comparing Yourself to Others

Have you ever caught yourself comparing yourself to the other people in the room while practicing yoga? Have you thought that maybe you’re not good enough because you don’t have enough Instagram followers? Have you thought about giving up on your business because your website doesn’t look as good as your yoga teacher friend’s does?

I’ve been there.

On this episode, I’m sharing the danger of comparison and how comparison can truly be “the thief of joy”, if we allow it to be so. I share a few personal examples of where comparison has popped up in my personal and professional life and how I have learned to shift my perspective on comparison.

I don’t think it’s possible to ever truly rid your life of comparison, but it is certainly possible to shift the way that you interpret comparison and deal with it. This is obviously easier said than done, and I chat about a few tips for beginning to learn to identify when you are comparing yourself to others, why you are doing it, how to cope with it, and how to turn it into an opportunity to improve yourself.

057: Running Yoga Retreats in Zambia with Carolyn McPherson

This is Carolyn’s second time on the podcast, and I’m super excited to be chatting with her all the way from Livingstone, Zambia near Victoria Falls. Since the last time that Carolyn was on the podcast, she’s taught yoga in India, Angola and now she’s in Zambia teaching yoga and running yoga retreats.

One of the many things I love about Carolyn is her sense of adventure, and how with each move that she makes, she gets one step closer to her goal of opening a yoga and dance retreat. Her choice to move to Zambia is no different.

On this episode, Carolyn shares how she found yoga teaching jobs in Luanda, Angola, how she chooses where to travel to find teaching jobs, and what brought her to Zambia. She also shares how she has been able to set up up a continuous yoga retreat in Zambia, and what she has learned through this experience.

If you are considering starting a yoga retreat, and especially one in an international country, you don’t want to miss this episode!

Enjoy!
