The Challenges Of Teaching Yoga As A Business (& How To Overcome Them)

The great benefit of running a yoga business is that you get to roll your passion and work into one. Of course, no business can feel like fun all the time, and there are bound to be some challenges along the way. In fact, there are some pretty specific issues that you are likely to come across as a yoga instructor. The solutions to which you can find discussed below.

Staying passionate

The first issue that you may come across is being able to stay passionate about your own personal yoga practice while running your business. Now, you may think that it will be easy after all, you will get to ‘do’ yoga all day every day, the one thing in life that you love the most.

However, being an instructor is very different from attending a class. In fact, you will need to lead, advise, and adjust, and you may find yourself exhausted and ‘yogaed’ out by the end of the day, leaving little energy or motivation for your own practice.

Of course, there are solutions to this issue and one to make sure that you do not overload yourself with classes. In fact, leaving enough time to stay connected to your own practice is very important for a teacher.

Additionally, setting aside time in the year for workshops, retreats, and advanced practitioner classes is a smart idea as well. Then you will be able to solely focus on your own practice, something that can help you to retain your passion.

Managing your business on the go

Next, as a yoga teacher, it is highly likely that you will spend very little time in one location. In fact, a typical day in the life of an instructor will be moving from venue to venue for classes.

Of course, this means that you will face the challenge of managing your business while on the move. Something that may include answering queries, scheduling classes, marketing, and accounting.

Happily, all of these things are now possible because of mobile technology. Although many such businesses also choose to use secure Business Technology Solutions on their mobile equipment, both to make sure they have access to all the tools they need, and to guarantee that their businesses and customer data remain secure, even when on the move.

After all, your customers will expect the same safety and protection as they would from any other business. The fact that you have to work while on the go does not change that.

Finding suitable venues

Finally, a particular problem that many yoga teachers come across is being able to find a suitable venue. Of course, by appropriate I mean large enough to house your class, available at the times you want, in a good location, and at a suitable price as well. A fair bit to ask from a single venue, but the good news is that there are usually more than enough options.

In fact, apart from sports centers, school halls, community centers, and even private businesses like hotels could work here. You just need to get out there and make inquiries.
