This week on the podcast I am joined by the co-founder of The Yogis Journal, Matt Kowald. Matt joined me all the way from Ontario, Canada, although you’ll hear right away in the podcast that Matt is originally from Australia.

On this episode of the podcast we talk about where the idea for The Yogis Journal came from and what the process for creating a journal was like. We also talk about creating new, positive habits and how to create habits that will last in the long term, not just the short term. Matt shares how to create a successful morning and evening routine, as well as tips for breaking bad habits that aren’t serving you anymore. Finally, Matt talks about the power of a daily journaling habit and how The Yogis Journal can help yoga teachers build a daily journaling habit!

Enjoy!

    Business Lessons from this Episode:

  • Alibaba is a great resource for people who want to create something like a journal
  • To build a habit, you need a trigger. This can be something that gives you a reason / motivation to actually start doing the habit.
  • Set yourself up for success with habits by taking away bits of resistance. For example, set out your yoga or gym clothes the night before.
  • Start with small habits and build them up from there – make the barrier
  • We need to consistently practice our habits, but it’ll take 18-21 days to get it to feel more like a normal part of your life
  • Come from a place of ahimsa when it comes to building habits
  • Everyone has a morning routine whether they realize it or not!
  • Start by asking yourself what you do when you feel best and then add these elements to your morning routine
  • Put the alarm out of arms reach so that you don’t snooze!
  • Turn your phone on airplane mode or sleep mode so that you don’t get any notifications until after you’re done your morning routine
  • Give yourself some time away from your electronics before you go to bed (1 or so hours is recommended)
  • If you want to break a habit, you need to make it extremely difficult to check
  • Write down your goals and dreams and they are more likely to come true!
  • Changing “I can’t” to “I don’t” allows it to become more powerful
  • And much more… Here’s the episode!
