Kelly DiNardo & Amy Pearce-Hayden are mothers, yoga teachers, yoga studio owners, and the co-authors of “Living the Sutras: A Guide to Yoga Wisdom Beyond the Mat”. They met in Madison, Wisconsin and connected over both being yoga studio owners and yoga teachers. One thing led to another, and after discovering their mutual love of the yoga sutras, they decided to write an easy to digest book on the yoga sutras that will help people learn the yoga sutras and take them off the mat and into real life.

On this episode, Amy and Kelly share their yoga stories and how they met, they share lessons they’ve learned as yoga teachers and studio owners, the process of co-authoring a book, what “Living the Sutras” is all about, some of their favorite sutras and how to apply them off the mat and in real life, the biggest business lessons they’ve learned through their careers and more!

Business Lessons from this Episode:

  • When you create a studio space, create something you want to practice at
  • You have to pay attention to your world around you and how you’re dealing with the community around you
  • You need to create community for your yoga teachers, as well as your students
  • Take other teachers classes and build relationships with your fellow teachers and the student community
  • We need to trust the process and give up control sometimes
  • There’s never going to be the perfect time to write a book – life will always be busy so you need to just find time if this is something you really want to do
  • You’ll never get rid of all negative thoughts, but you can crowd them out with positive thoughts
  • A lot of the work in yoga is catching the mind in habit thought
  • Money is energy, and it should be approached like this
  • As a studio owner, the business side of the yoga studio is primarily your responsibility
  • It’s hard to run a successful yoga studio and teach a ton of classes a week
  • Treat your team the way that you would like to be treated and never ask them to do anything that you would never do yourself
  • You need to remain a student of yoga to be a great teacher
  • And much more… Here’s the episode!
