Kathryn Bruni-Young on Movement & Creating a Successful Online Business

Listen on iTunes or Download Here.

This week on the podcast I am joined by Kathryn Bruni-Young who is the founder of Mindful Strength, the host of the Mindful Strength Podcast, an international teacher and a creative thinker in the field of yoga and movement. Kathryn grew up practicing yoga, and started teaching when she was in her late teens. After years of practicing more traditional Ashtanga, Kathryn realized that she was having chronic pain in her body, and started to learn more about movement.

On this episode, Kathryn dives into her passion for movement and how her teaching style has changed significantly since learning more about movement and how it can be integrated with yoga. We also discuss taking your yoga business online and what it takes to a successful entrepreneur, how to build a successful online course and tips for teaching workshops around the world.

Enjoy!

Business Lessons from this Episode:

  • Listen to your body when it comes to your practice. Don’t practice something just because you feel like you should!
  • Doing too much of one thing can eventually make you feel not very good
  • Integrate new things that you learn into your classes slowly
  • It’s an art to integrate movement into your classes and still make it feel like yoga
  • Start small when it comes to workshops, and teach what you know and what you’re good at
  • Taking your business online allows you to reach people from all over the world
  • Get a website!
  • Hire a videographer if you don’t have any background in filming yourself
  • Can you generate the content that you need to put out there?
  • Can you generate good content that you feel good about?
  • Do you have a tech background or do you need support?
  • You need to believe in yourself and your skills
  • There will always be ups and downs in your life and your business
  • When you’re having a low moment / time in your business, know that the pendulum of entrepreneurship will swing and you will feel the motivation and passion!
  • When you’re feeling down get outside, listen to an inspiring podcast, and watch videos and gain inspiration from people that you love!
  • When you’re self employed, it’s really important that all the content you put out is the best possible content that you can create in that moment
  • There is only so much work you can do as one person – there are only so many classes you can teach and private clients you can take on
  • If you want to create an online course, just start! If the video or audio quality isn’t great, price it accordingly.
  • “If you wait until it’s perfect, you’ve waited too long”
  • Put good content on the internet, and make a lot of it free
  • Have an email list, use social media, get a website – that’s basic yoga business!
