This week on the podcast I am joined by Amanda McKinney. Amanda is a yoga business coach and the host of the Marketing Yoga with Confidence podcast. She is an expert in marketing, and after working for many years in the corporate world, she transitioned to working with yoga teachers to help them market their products and services, and get more students in classes.

On this episode, we talk about how to discover who your dream client is, how to find out where they hang out online and offline, and then how to market to them in an authentic way to get them into your classes. Amanda speaks to how we can market ourselves and our services authentically, as well as shares business lessons she’s learned along the way.

Enjoy!

Discussed in this episode:
  • How Amanda first found and fell in love with yoga
  • How a corporate career and workaholic tendency’s led to Amanda falling out of her yoga practice
  • Falling in love with yoga again after ten years
  • Realizing that yoga teachers needed help with marketing their businesses and deciding that she wanted to work with yoga teachers instead of her corporate marketing clients
  • Why Amanda completed a yoga teacher training, but feels that teaching marketing is her calling
  • The differences between working with corporate clients in comparison with working one on one with yoga teachers — marketing budgets are smaller, but you can work quicker and more creatively
  • How can yoga teachers attract more students to classes and workshops
    • For new teachers – talk to people, make connections, and invite people to your classes!
    • For more experienced teachers struggling to fill classes – Leaning into what makes you, and your classes unique.
  • When we niche down on one focused style, we may not be right for some students, but we equally serve others better
  • Amanda’s foundational steps for marketing a business –
    • Shifting your mindset to thinking of marketing as simply nurturing relationships and helping people
    • Knowing the power of niching down and focusing on serving a specific need for specific people
    • Speaking your passion – word of mouth is the most impactful marketing for yoga teachers, so focus on your ‘passion statement’ and start speaking about it
    • Getting business cards – have something that you can hand to people when you’re talking to them about yourself and your teaching
    • Just getting started – don’t wait, whatever it is you want to do, take the first step forward today!
  • Reminding ourselves that great things take time, but with commitment and work, they will eventually come
  • When you try to create a business and a career as a yoga teacher there will be hard days, embrace them, but don’t let them stop you from working towards your goals
  • And much more… Here’s the episode!
