This week on the podcast I am joined by Hope Zvara. Hope is a yoga teacher, a motivational speaker, a best selling author, a yoga studio owner, the CEO of Mother Trucker Yoga, and so much more. On this episode of the podcast, Hope and I talk about how yoga pulled her out of a dark place personally, how she started teaching yoga, and what inspired her to open a yoga studio. We also dive into knowing your value as a yoga teacher, and why the money side of yoga is important. Of course, Hope and I dive into the business lessons she’s learned through owning a yoga studio, as well as how she’s been able to take her yoga business online and tips for people who want to do the same.

This episode was super fun to record and is jam-packed with valuable information!

Enjoy!

Discussed in this episode:
  • How Hope first got into yoga and how yoga helped Hope recover from an eating disorder, depression and anxiety
  • How Hope hustled to different yoga studios until she decided to finally open her own yoga studio
  • If you know you’re bringing value, show people the value of what you’re offering
  • We have to make sure that the exchange we are getting into when it comes to our offerings is aligned – we won’t feel good if the exchange is off (monetary or not)
  • Be aware of the exchange you are receiving when teaching free classes
  • As yoga teachers, we HAVE to know our worth and we have to be comfortable asking for our worth – the industry will not change and people will not make sustainable incomes if we give our services away for free
  • Eliminate words like “I don’t have time” and “I can’t afford it”
  • Our money stories can prevent us from actually getting where we want to go with our careers
  • If you want your classes to grow and for more people to attend, you have to tell people you teach and when you teach
  • As yoga teachers, we need yoga studios, and as studio owners, we need great yoga teachers. This is a reciprocal relationship and we need to work together to make sure that we have great relationships and are treating each other well.
  • Work with your yoga teachers to make sure that they know that you are behind them and that you want them to succeed. In return, they will show up for you!
  • Ask for help in your business! We can’t do it all alone.
  • As a studio owner, let your staff in – be transparent and let them be a part of your studio!
  • How Hope was able to take her business online
  • Don’t wait for people to buy from you – ask them to buy from you!
  • You need to build up a loyal following before you have people buying from you
  • Before you go online, make sure you have a tribe that is capable of going online – will your tribe resonate with an online business?
  • Owning a yoga studio is not for everyone – keeping up your personal practice will be hard, so make sure that you don’t lose yourself in the process, and always ask for help
  • Focus on quality over quantity
  • Always ask yourself “How can I do better?”
  • And much more… Here’s the episode!
