This week on the podcast I am re-joined by Anastasia Shevchenko!

The last time Anastasia and I chatted was May of 2018 before she hosted the first-ever Berlin Yoga Conference. Now, over a year and a half later she has successfully hosted the first conference and is planning the second one!

In this episode, we talk about how the first conference went, what she learned, what she plans to change for the upcoming conference in 2020, and more. Enjoy!

Discussed in this episode:

  • Catching up with Anastasia about how she has been working on and growing her yoga business since our last conversation in 2018
  • Figuring out the financial side of running a yoga conference (setting a budget, pricing, costs, etc) and learning from a budget crunch after the first conference
  • Learning as you go when you are starting an event (yoga or otherwise)
  • Balancing growing business with a young family
  • Deciding to take a break from teaching regular classes while working on the yoga conference
  • What are the biggest lessons learned from running a yoga conference
    • Simplifying the event and focusing on the conference aspect of the conference. Learning from the challenges that arose trying to have a festival, conference, and trade show altogether in one event
    • The biggest business lesson Anastasia learned from the event was really doing the math on the event and business. To prepare for the financial side of the different possible outcomes (optimistic and conservative) for the event
    • Getting comfortable saying no to things. When you say yes, even when you should have said no, it works out worse for everyone involved
    • Starting small and building up. When you do something for the first time, no matter how awesome the quality, you have to create momentum. Start with the small and focused version of your event and grow from there
  • What to expect from the 2020 (June 19-21, 2020) Berlin Yoga Conference!
  • Check out Anastasia’s first episode on the podcast!
